Fantasy and Design: two seemingly opposing concepts musically unite and challenge each other in this three part recital series embracing music from fourteen hundred to the twenty-first century. Although only two compositions bear the name “Fantasie”, the musical concept of an improvised thought or a written down improvisation is a returning aspect in all pieces - and so is its counterpart: strictly “designed” compositions following clear rules, which often have evolved from improvisational practice, offer an artistic and musical antithesis.

Throughout the three episodes, airing in June, July, and August, you will hear compositions for recorder solo by Van Eyck, Telemann, Bach, Yun, Berio, Andriessen, and many more...
